Ectiva has been reported to cause increased blood pressure in some patients. It is important to have your blood pressure and pulse monitored regularly while taking sibutramine.
Ectiva dosage
The starting dose is 10 mg of Ectiva once daily. If you have not lost at least 4 pounds after 4 weeks, the doctor may increase the dose to 15 milligrams daily. This is the maximum; if weight loss still fails to appear, Ectiva will be discontinued.
For those who experience side effects at the 10-milligram level, a 5-milligram dose may prove sufficient.
Ectiva - Missed Dose
Take the missed dose of Ectiva as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take only the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not take a double dose of this medication.
Ectiva Precautions
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. Ectiva may cause dizziness, difficulty concentrating, or restlessness. If you experience these effects, avoid hazardous activities.
Do not take any other prescription or over-the-counter medicines without first talking to your doctor, especially weight-loss products, tryptophan (L-tryptophan, 5-HTP), decongestants, antidepressants, cough suppressants, lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid, Lithonate, others), and migraine medicines.
Ectiva Side effects
Side effects may include:
- Increased blood pressure. In most people, the increase is small enough not to be a cause for concern. In others, however, the increase may be large enough to reconsider use of the medicine. Also, as you lose weight, your blood pressure may come down.
- Increased pulse (heart rate).
- Headache.
- Dry mouth.
- Constipation.
- Sleep problems.
